According to Locklear, the actor was “very nice” on their date, but it wasn’t enough for the actress back in the “rock and roll” days.
Heather Locklear recalls her one and only date with Tom Cruise.
During a panel at 90s Con Florida on Saturday, September 14, the Melrose Place alumnus opened up about how they first met Cruise, 62, at an audition early in their careers.
We went to the movie audition together, and I remember thinking, “Oh my gosh, I’m terrible,” but then I burst out laughing, “He’s even worse!”
“After that, he ended up visiting my house with Sean Penn, and I felt a little bit older at that point because he was just like this little baby boy,” the woman recalled. They were rather nice, although he said “yes ma’am” to me firmly, to which I said “Okay, sir.”
The actress claimed that she was a “rock and roll girl” at the time and that her personal style did not fit with Cruise’s.
He didn’t quite cut it, Locklear remarked with a grin, and then they went on a date. “I mean, he was really cute, and we went out dancing to Club Lingerie at that time,” she recalled.
Speaking about his dance skills, she continued by stating that she was among the first to see the famous scene from Risky Business in which he glides to his knees.
She recalled, “I was dancing along like, ‘Do you stop dancing if they’re down there?'” “That’s what he really did before [the movie].” “I was overjoyed, but he was really kind to me.”
She went on, “Neither of us got that part by the way,” making a reference to their first meeting during the audition.
Locklear has come a long way since then. After being cast in Melrose Place in 1992, the program enjoyed a successful seven-season run.
In April, rumors about a revival of Melrose Place first arose, more than thirty years after the original. Later on, during 90s Con, it was confirmed.
Pressure from reunions swiftly brings out old wounds, reignites old loves, stokes old grudges, and reveals new realities. “Throws our characters into a chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but from a much more modern perspective,” according to the series synopsis.
