Volkswagen brought back Scout Motors as a new business that makes electric vehicles. Find out more about its Tera pickup truck and Traveler SUV.
The electric cars from Scout Motors are here and almost ready to go. Fans of the brand have been waiting patiently for the nameplate to finally come. Scout’s newest electric cars, the Traveler SUV and the Terra pickup truck, were shown to buyers for the first time. Find out more about them and Scout Motors’ goals below.
In what way does Volkswagen own Scout Motors?
After buying the brand’s first owner, Navistar International, Volkswagen Group bought the Scout name. Volkswagen does give Scout money, though; it does not run Scout. Scout is its own business that works on its own.
Volkswagen AG officially presented Scout to the world in 2022, when they said they were making it as an EV-focused brand.
Scott Keogh, who was CEO of Volkswagen USA, became the first CEO and president of Scout Motors.
Scout said in 2023 that they would make 200,000 EVs a year after they built a $2 billion plant. A press statement from Scout says that Keogh said the goal was to focus on a “calling and a community” while speaking from the brand’s North Carolina headquarters in February 2024.
Keogh also said, “We’re here to celebrate the revival of an American icon and the reshoring of American jobs.” “We will build great cars on this land with our hands and our technology.”

The new Traveler SUV
Scout’s new SUV, called the “Traveler,” came out in October 2024. The Traveler and the Terra truck will both be made for the first time in 2027. The company said that the SUV should be able to pull up to 700 pounds.
The price of the Traveler SUV will be well below $60,000. It will also have a spare tire rack in the back. When 2028 comes around, people should be able to drive the SUV.
Pick-up Truck Terra
The Terra will likely come out in 2028, the same year as the SUV, and will likely cost less than $60,000. A story from Car and Driver says that Scout said that both the Terra and the SUV would get 350 miles on a single charge.
