What Led Bannon to the Jailhouse?

The two counts of contempt of Congress that Bannon was found guilty of in July 2022 were for failing to appear before the House Committee on January 6, for failing to produce records pertaining to his role in Trump’s endeavors to reverse his 2020 presidential loss to Joe Biden, and for refusing to sit for a deposition.

Bannon “had contempt for Congress,” the prosecutor said the jury, adding that Bannon “choosed allegiance to Donald Trump over compliance with the law.” Congress was trying to figure out “why Jan. 6 happened and how to ensure it never happens again.”

Bannon called himself a “political prisoner” when he started serving his sentence in July at a federal facility in Connecticut that had low security.

At the time, he proudly said, “I am going to prison,” stating that he was challenging Attorney General Merrick Garland and a “corrupt” Justice Department.
