Nina Dobrev of “The Vampire Diaries” and Shaun White of the Olympic snowboarding team are engaged!
Nina Dobrev, who plays Elena Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries, would rather spend her life with Shaun White than Damon, even though the latter may have achieved Elena’s happily ever after. In an interview published on Wednesday, October 30, the couple announced their engagement to Vogue. The Olympic snowboarder is 38 years old, and the 35-year-old actress is engaged to him.
Nina broke the news that Shaun proposed earlier this month while remembering how carefully he had prepared it.
Under an arch of white roses, where the athlete dropped down on one knee, Nina remarked, “He said all the right things,” while Shaun gushed about how “nervous” she seemed to meet him.
The couple first ignited romance rumors in March of 2020, coinciding with the beginning of the pandemic; now, engagement news has arrived. Shaun was seen riding his bike beside Nina’s dog Maverick as the two enjoyed a leisurely ride along a Malibu nature trail. Shortly after the bike trip, HollywoodLife obtained further intel about this burgeoning romance at the time.
For a long time, Nina and Shaun were close friends who spent a lot of time together. According to an insider who spoke with Hollywood Life in April of 2020, the relationship has evolved into something more flirty now that they’re both single and naturally attracted to each other. As their romance blossomed, the two continued to wow onlookers with their cute Instagram posts, videos, and public displays of affection (PDA).

Nina and Shaun continued to gushingly post each other on social media as their romance gained more attention. Above you can read Shaun’s heartfelt dedication he penned for his partner on Valentine’s Day of 2021; it was essentially a photo history of their love.
After Shaun’s 2022 snowboarding retirement, Nina admitted she was “in awe” of his extraordinary athleticism. At the time, she expressed her immense pride via an Instagram post. “Of all you’ve achieved as an athlete and the person you’ve grown into over the past two decades,” she wrote alongside a slideshow of his Olympic images. “There is no one quite like you.”
By the year’s conclusion, the pair appeared more committed than ever before, taking a June romance trip to the Maldives and a December family vacation to Mexico. Apparently still very much in it by 2023, Nina and Shaun had purchased their first joint house, a mansion in the Hollywood Hills for $4.3 million.
“Nina and Shaun have been serious for a long time, so it makes sense that they’re moving in together,” an insider told Life & Style in a July 2023 article. With the assistance of a designer, they are eager to transform this into their ideal home. Friends can’t wait for Shaun to pop the question; this is a monumental milestone for the happy couple.
