Talking Heads have stated that their first album, Talking Heads: 77, will come out in a Super Deluxe Edition.
On November 8, you’ll be able to buy a three-CD/Blu-ray set or a four-LP vinyl set. The sets come with a remastered version of the original album, a disc of rarities, and a disc of live tracks from a show at New York’s CBGB on October 10, 1977.
One of these songs, an acoustic version of “Psycho Killer” with Arthur Russell, is played below. It’s from the new album.
Besides the CD and vinyl sets, there will also be digital versions and a limited edition vinyl collection with four 7″ singles. You can read more about the sets on Talking Heads’ website.
The box comes with an 80-page hardcover book with never-before-seen pictures, memorabilia, and new liner notes written by David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison, Tina Weymouth, and Ed Stasium, the album’s recording engineer.
How many songs are on the Super Deluxe Edition of “Talking Heads 77”?
The Blu-ray version of the CD version has a 2024 Stereo Remaster, a new Atmos Mix, 5.1 Mix DTS-HD MA, and 5.1 Mix LPCM, all of which were handled by Harrison.
Some of the rare tracks are B-sides and outtakes from that time, like “Sugar on My Tongue” and “(Love Goes to) Building on Fire.” It also has acoustic versions of songs and versions of “Pulled Up” and “Psycho Killer” that have never been released before.
The live set from an October 1977 show at CBGB, around the time the record came out, has 13 songs, most of which are from Talking Heads: 77, which came out less than a month before the show. “Take Me to the River,” a cover of Al Green’s song, was played. It would be recorded for their second album, More Songs About Buildings and Food, which came out in 1978 and became their first Top 40 hit.
