People who watched the 2024 Emmy Awards were shocked to see Kathy Bates cut down.
The Matlock star said she was “facing diabetes” before she lost a lot of weight. She now says she hasn’t “been this slim” since she was in college.
Fans are now guessing that the 76-year-old actress used weight loss drugs to lose 100 pounds after seeing a sign that said “she doesn’t look healthy” and “Olympic has aged her.”
In a September 2024 interview with Variety, she said, “I have to admit I give an inner wink when I see friends who used to be beauty queens and are no longer working because of ageism. In my case, I’ve been able to keep working for many years because I don’t look like that.” She then says, “I don’t think I would have gotten the part in Misery if I had been a beauty queen.” She is referring to how cold she was as killer Annie Wilkes in Stephen King’s Misery.
She did, however, get a reputation as an actor who can easily play a cruel bad guy.
Giancarlo Esposito and Anthony Starr, two bad guys in Hollywood, gave Bates an award. Bates won an Emmy in 2014 for her scary role as Madame Delphine LaLaurie in American Horror Story: Coven.
Bates shone on stage in a floor-length purple dress with a thin layer of dark sequins that sparkled in the bright lights of the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
She put the style together with her amazing new body, which she got after losing 100 pounds.
“Having diabetes”
Extra talked to the About Schmidt star about when she knew it was time to make changes in her life.
“I really didn’t want to live with diabetes because it runs in my family,” she said.
Bates was also told she had ovarian cancer in 2003 and breast cancer in 2012. After having a double mastectomy, she had a lot of swelling. Lymphedema symptoms get better when you lose weight.
“I feel bad”
In an interview with Variety, the Oscar-winning actress said that she felt the most stressed about her weight while shooting Harry’s Law, the courtroom comedy she was in from 2011 to 2012.
“I had to sit down whenever I could.” It was hard for me to walk. I feel bad that I let myself get so out of shape.
A well-thought-out change in living was needed.
„After twenty to thirty minutes of eating, you can’t help but sigh. She told Extra that the stomach and brain are telling each other that you’ve had enough. “And that’s what I learned: if you listen to that sigh and put that plate down for five minutes, you’ll know you’re full and don’t need to eat anymore.”
“I feel so much better now than I have in years. I’m thankful—it’s a miracle,” she says.
Because she has lost weight, Bates says, “I have a tremendous amount of energy now.” “It’s helped me a lot to lose 100 pounds in the last six or seven years.”
She goes on, “I don’t think I’ve been this thin since college.”
“Great” and “healthier”
Fans were shocked to see how much weight the Dolores Claiborne star had lost when she went to the 2024 Emmy Awards.
People who posted comments on social media sites praised her skills and commitment to living a healthy life.
“Such a beautiful and talented actor! Kathy, go after them! It’s written by two different people: “She’s always been beautiful, but she’s healthier now.” Wonderful actress!
Some people on the internet thought she might be on a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes called Wegovy or Ozempic, which triggers the brain’s satiety circuits.
“It’s clear that the Olympic way of losing weight is bad for you.” Give it only to people with diabetes who should be taking it. Someone snaps, “Get up and change the way you eat!” they kindly ignored the actors’ previous health problems related to diabetes.
Another person writes, “I love Kathy Bates but Ozempic doesn’t suit her.” Another person writes, “Great actress but I think Ozempic has aged her.”
A third person asks, “Why has she lost so much weight?” She doesn’t look good.
To protect the star, someone else says, “Make up your mind.” You make fun of people for doing the one thing that has ever made their lives better, even though they are overweight. Exercise and eating plans don’t always work, despite what most people think.
If you’re afraid that Bates will retire, she said, “My friends say I’ll probably be like Molière and die in my chair on the stage…because it really is a life force for me.”
