‘Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson,’ a boxing mega-event that will broadcast live from Arlington, Texas on November 15, is being promoted by the video giant as a spectacular show for its members worldwide.
A preview for Netflix’s next boxing mega-event, which is deserving of a movie promotional video, features Jake “El Gallo” Paul and Mike Tyson, the Baddest Man on the Planet.
In the video (below), trailer narrator Samuel L. Jackson declares, “There’s never been a night this big,” as terrifying. Bobbing and snarling in their respective corners, Paul and Tyson seem prepared to answer the bell for Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, Netflix’s debut in live combat sports on November 15.
There is a ton of film from past prizefights in which Paul defeats opponents and Tyson, who was famous for his spectacular first-round knockouts in his best days. The narration goes on, “This is a fight the world’s been waiting for,” as Netflix attempts to make the fight available to its customers worldwide while still having to sell out the 80,000-seat arena in Arlington, Texas.
Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions will produce the boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson for Netflix. It will feature the co-main event, Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano, as well as undercard fights, Mario Barrios vs. Abel Ramos and Neeraj Goyat vs. Whindersson Nunes.
Additionally, Netflix is still promoting fight night: The first two episodes of the previously scheduled three-part companion documentary series Countdown: Paul Vs. Tyson air on November 7; the third installment, which comes right before the major event, airs on November 12.
As Netflix enters the market that was previously dominated by late-night broadcast TV before shifting to HBO, Showtime, and pay-per-view events, the boxing match builds on the streaming service’s developing live sports strategy.
Although the streamer pointed out at the time that the WWE crosses the boundaries between sports and entertainment, Netflix had previously signed a 10-year contract worth over $5 billion with the organization. The Paul and Tyson fight is expected to resemble The Netflix Slam, which featured tennis players Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz competing in Las Vegas, or The Netflix Cup, which was the company’s first attempt at live sports and featured PGA Tour players and Formula 1 drivers competing in a golf tournament.
Paul, a digital creator who rose to fame on YouTube alongside his brother Logan Paul, is also primarily responsible for the fight game’s resurgence on Netflix.
Paul projected in a recent cover story for The Hollywood Reporter that the bout would get 25 million Netflix watchers, making it the most viewed boxing match ever. (Paul also revealed that he is earning $40 million for the fight during a press conference.)
“This is Mike Tyson’s chance to make amends,” Gabe Spitzer, vice president at Netflix Sports, told THR for the report. “Mike Tyson at 58 will be respected for the rest of his life if he returns and knocks out Jake Paul,” said Paul’s manager, former UFC chief financial officer Nakisa Bidarian. He ended this YouTuber’s dominance. Of course, many people will be furious if Jake manages to defeat Mike Tyson. However, there will also be a lot more opportunities for him in the boxing world.
